Start Date: Feburary 10 & 11 in Gitsegukla and February 12 in New Hazelton
Location: Gitsegukla

Gitxsan Development Corporation, in partnership with Gitsegukla and Everyone Counts Training & Driving School, will be offering a Class 7 Learner’s Licence Preparation on February 10 & 11 in Gitsegukla with the knowledge test on February 12 in New Hazelton. 

Requirements:

  • You can get your L on or after your 16th birthday - a parent or legal guardian to sign consent if you’re under 19
  • Bring two pieces of identification with you to the knowledge & vision screening test

How we can help:

  • 3 days of in-class instruction to prepare you for the knowledge test.
  • We will book your knowledge test test appointment & vision screening test and pay the fees.
  • Once you have successfully gotten your Class 7 Learner’s Licence, you can apply for in car training/practice with our Instructor. 

How to Apply:
Step 1: Fill out our new and improved GDC Online Enrollment Form.

Step 2: Send a copy of your cover letter (stating how this course or recertification will increase the chances of getting and maintaining employment) , resume & status card to tracey.woods@gitxsanbusiness.com.

Both steps need to be done in full before your application is considered complete.

Location: Sik-E-Dakh

Gitxsan Development Corporation, in partnership with Sik-E-Dakh and Everyone Counts Training & Driving School, will be offering a Class 7 Learner’s Licence Preparation on February 17 & 18 in Sik-E-Dakh with the knowledge test on February 19 in New Hazelton.

Ongoing (courses must be completed by March 31, 2021)

A focus of GDC as a company is to deliver products and services that lead to sustainable employment on an individualized basis and to attain job skills that are both marketable and transferable to any job market.

For those participants who are work ready, this program will support recertification or upgrading their skills. Students will apply for funding with a letter from an institution describing the program, as well as, submit a write-up on how training will assist them in their chosen profession. The recert/upgrading budget will cover up to $1500 for tuition & books (living allowance is not provided).

Step 3: In your email, include information on the cost of the course & what is included in the cost (tuition, books, etc.), where and with who the training is provided and an acceptance letter from the training provider stating they have a spot in the course available for you.

February 17, 2021 @ 9am - 1 day renewal/recertification if your TCP is about to expire or expired.
February 18 & 19, 2020 @ 9am - 2 day TCP training to receive your TCP ticket.

Location: Gitxsan Development Corporation (1425 Aldous St., South Hazelton)

The BCCSA’s comprehensive, two-day standardized course for Traffic Control Persons (TCPs) consists of classroom and practical training and is the only program of its kind accepted by WorkSafeBC under Section 18 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation for high-risk traffic control. This two-day training session has been designed to qualify those who work as high-risk TCPs throughout the province of BC. Upon successful completion, TCPs are provided with a three year certification. To requalify, TCPs must complete the one-day requalification course.

Prerequisites

You must have your own steel toe boots and dress according to the weather on the Day 2 practical.

Qualification

To successfully complete the course, the participant must pass both the written exam with a minimum mark of 80% and the practical evaluation with 100%.  Records of completion are provided by the BCCSA and are valid for three years.

Course Objectives

Participants who successfully complete the training will understand the following:

  • Roles and responsibilities of TCPs, employers and supervisors
  • Regulations and standards, including those set out by Ministry of Transportation, WorkSafeBC and the Motor Vehicle Act
  • Traffic control equipment and devices, including personal protective equipment
  • Setting up, maintaining and removing work zones
  • Working around equipment
  • Signaling
  • Communication
