OFA1

July 22, 2021 @ 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Why take OFA1?

The benefits and importance of being able to appropriately administer emergency first aid should the need ever arise at your workplace. Every workplace should have employees who know what to do in a possible life or death situation. Even if the situation is not life threatening, timely first aid can make a huge difference to a patient’s recovery.

Not every workplace however, can afford to send their employees on a multiple day or week course. It simply isn’t practical for many organizations to lose that many man hours.

Level 1 is a good first aid course for those organizations that fit this description. Each employee who takes the course is only away for one day – and yet for each one who takes it, your organization will have one more person who knows what to do in an emergency.

What will you learn?

OFA Level one will teach students to identify and manage a variety of medical emergencies. It will empower you to make appropriate decisions should you witness someone going into distress and it may even help you to save a life. Among the techniques that you may expect to learn are:

  • Identify Injuries
Identify minor soft tissue injuries such as sprains and contusions and perform the appropriate interventions including the need for medical referral. Participants will also learn to accurately complete the required documentation.
  • Proper Approach
Demonstrate the Priority Action Approach (to the end of the primary survey) for conscious patients with a decreased level of consciousness.
  • Manage Critical Interventions
Identify and manage critical interventions of the airway with C-spine control for conscious patients and patients with a decreased level of
consciousness. In other words, you will learn how to help the patient breathe without causing potential injury to the spine.
  • Identify Respiratory Emergencies
Identify respiratory emergencies such as choking and manage critical interventions. You will also learn how to recognize and manage asthmatic conditions and anaphylactic shock.
  • Recognize Circulatory Emergencies
Recognize circulatory emergencies as well as manage critical interventions
  • Manage Ailments
Describe how to identify and manage fainting, diabetic conditions, seizures, and stroke.
